DETROIT (11/17/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will look for that high note as the Titans travel to the Music City for the 2K Sports Classic Benefitting The Wounded Warrior Project Belmont Subregional this weekend.
The Titans will open the event with Jesuit-rival Seattle on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. (EST), before playing either Houston Baptist or host Belmont on Sunday.

Detroit Mercy is 1-1 on the season after rolling past UM-Dearborn on Monday, 105-82. Junior
Kameron Chatman leads the team in scoring (20.0 ppg.) and rebounding (7.0 rpg.), while freshman
Jermaine Jackson Jr., is tallying 14.5 points, 4.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game.
The game marks a stretch where the Titans will play five of their next six away from Calihan Hall.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST SEATTLE
- This will be the first career meeting between Detroit Mercy and Jesuit-rival Seattle.
THE BATTLE OF THE JESUITS
- The game against Seattle marks a meeting between two of the 28 Jesuit Universities in the United States.
- The Titans and Redhawks are also two of the 20 Jesuit programs that are Division I.
- Detroit Mercy is 207-237 all-time against its fellow Jesuit brothers, but have not faced one since playing former conference foe Loyola in 2013.
ABOUT THE REDHAWKS
- Seattle is 1-2 on the season with a 121-70 victory over Puget Sound, while falling at Saint Louis (62-46) and at Washington State (75-59).
- Richaud Gittens leads the team in scoring at 15.3 points per game, while Josh Hearlihy is tallying 13.7 points and 5.2 rebounds.
- Matej Kavas tops the boards at 8.0 a night to go with 12.7 points and Morgan Means is posting 8.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and a team-high 3.0 assists per contest.
- The Redhawks were selected fifth in both the 2017-18 WAC preseason coaches and media poll.
- Jim Hayford is in his first year as head coach of Seattle and his 19th overall as a collegiate head coach.
WHO ARE THESE GUYS?
- The Titans have never faced Seattle, Houston Baptist or Belmont in their history.
- Digging even deeper, the Titans are playing teams from conferences that they normally don't see.
- Seattle is part of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), where Detroit Mercy is 12-3 all-time with every meeting against Chicago State.
- If the Titans play Belmont, it puts the red, white and blue against the Ohio Valley Conference, where Detroit Mercy is 5-4 all-time, while a match-up with Houston Baptist out of the Southland Conference, where the Titans are 1-4.
PRESEASON HONORS
- A few preseason honors saw senior Jaleel Hogan and sophomore Corey Allen named to the Preseason Horizon League Second Team.
- Allen and junior Josh McFolley were also honored by College SportsMadness as All-League performers, and the publication picked freshman Jermaine Jackson Jr. as the Preseason Freshman of the Year.
HIGH POWERED OFFENSE
- The Titans powered their way to 105 points in the home opener against UM-Dearborn.
- It was the 92nd time in program history that the Titans recorded at least 100 points and the first since 2016.
- Detroit Mercy shot 53.3 percent from the field and registered 20 assists.
- Last season, the Titans totaled at least 70 points in 21 games, including hitting 80 points 12 times and 90 on five occasions.
- The Titans tied for third in the HL in offense last year at 77.0 ppg., - 85th in the nation.
- The Titans were also second in the HL in three-point field-goal percentage (37.2%), third three-point field goals per game (8.1) and fourth in field-goal percentage (44.5%).
WHAT A DEBUT FOR CHATMAN
- Redshirt junior Kameron Chatman had a great Titan debut as the former UM transfer led the team with 23 points at Virginia Tech.
- He was 9-of-12 from the field, including hitting all four of his 3-pointers, while also registering seven boards, two steals and a block.
- Chatman's career high was 13 as a sophomore for Michigan in a game against Rutgers.
- The 23 points was the most by a Titan in their debut since Brandon Cotton tallied 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting against Eastern Michigan on Dec. 20, 2004.
- In his last time out against UM-Dearborn, Chatman led the team again with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and tied for the team lead with another seven rebounds.
JJJ FILLING UP THE STAT SHEET
- Rookie Jermaine Jackson Jr., had a nice debut as a true freshman on the road at Virginia Tech posting 16 points with seven rebounds and three assists.
- The seven rebounds tied for the team lead, while his six defensive rebounds topped the team.
- In his home debut versus UM-Dearborn, he tallied 13 points and tied for the team lead with five assists.
IN-SEASON TOURNAMENTS
- Detroit Mercy has appeared in a number of in-season tournaments in the last seven years, most of which have been presented by 2K Sports and the Gazelle Group.
- Since 2009, the Titans are 12-17 during in-season tournaments with two subregional titles.
JONES, PRINCE INTO THE ACTION
- Graduate senior Roschon Prince posted nine points and five rebounds, while junior Tariiq Jones netted nine points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers, in their debuts at Virginia Tech.
- The two newcomers kept up their strong play in the home opener as Prince netted 11 points with five rebounds and two blocks and Jones scored 11 points and registered four rebounds and four assists.
TAKE IT AWAY
- Sophomore Corey Allen did not have his usual strong offensive game in the season opener finishing with 11 points at Virginia Tech, but he did tie his career high recording four steals.
- Against UM-Dearborn, he posted 10 points, tied career high with five assists and pulled down a career-best six boards.
WELCOME TO THE SHOW ISAIAH
- Senior Isaiah Jones finally made his collegiate debut after dealing with injuries the last two years.
- In three minutes at Virginia Tech, he grabbed two rebounds and had a block, while in two minutes of action in the home opener, he had another two boards and a block.
- Jones injured his knee after his sophomore year at junior college and then missed the following season rehabbing. Last year, he reinjured his knee prior to the start of the season and missed the entire year.
BLACKSHEAR JR. ON THE BOARDS
- Junior Gerald Blackshear Jr., was one of the best rebounders in the league when he was on the court last season tallying 4.0 rebounds in just 17.2 minutes of court time.
- Blackshear Jr. pulled down five or more rebounds in 12 games, including a career-high 11 boards at Cleveland State. He also averaged 6.0 points, shooting 61.3 percent from the field in limited touches.
- Last time out, Blackshear Jr., had eight points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes of action.
