Lexey Tobel (Hartland, Mich.) has been selected as the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
It's the first weekly honor for Tobel and the first of the season for the Titans.
Tobel scored 16 points, nailing five 3-pointers, while also totaling two blocks, two rebounds and one assist in Detroit Mercy's home opener against Bowling Green last Monday afternoon. The 16 points scored by Tobel was the most for a freshman in their debut from Calihan Hall since 2012.
The former Hartland High School standout sank 5-of-8 shots from both the field and from beyond the 3-point arc during the contest against the Falcons. Through two games, Tobel is averaging 9.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks. She has made 6-of-11 shots from 3-point range after two games.
The Titans have a busy week ahead of them, hosting Michigan State on Tuesday at Calihan Hall before heading to Daytona Beach, Fla. for a pair of contests at the 2017 San Juan Shootout on Thursday and Friday. Detroit Mercy plays Clemson on Thanksgiving before battling North Texas the following afternoon.
