Detroit Mercy Men’s Lacrosse Continues Rivalry With Michigan On Wednesday

DETROIT (2/14/2017) -- It might be all love today on Valentine's Day, but tomorrow, Feb. 15, it will be about breaking hearts as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team hosts Michigan at 7 p.m., at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac.

Tickets to the game are priced at $10, and fans can purchase them online by clicking here or on gameday at Ultimate Soccer Arenas - if any are still available. Any online purchases can be redeemed at will call at the game.

The Titans also have a special February indoor ticket deal featuring both indoor games (Feb. 15 vs. Michigan and Feb. 23 vs. Jacksonville) as you can buy tickets to both for just $15, or even a third deal as you can purchase both tickets and receive a vintage lacrosse t-shirt for $20 by clicking here

To purchase the special $15 ticket deal, you must call Director of Ticket Operations & Sales Justin Hairston at 313-993-1700 ext. 7301 or at hairstjj1@udmercy.edu or to purchase the Titan t-shirt deal, you must click here

Detroit Mercy began the 2017 season with a tough 14-8 loss at RV/No. 17 Ohio State last Saturday. Sophomore Matthew Vangalen led the team with five points, the most ever by a Titan in their debut.

Senior Ben Gjokaj matched his career high with 15 faceoff wins and picked up a career-best 10 ground balls, while senior Jason Weber made 11 saves.

Michigan is currently 2-0 on the year with a road win at Cleveland State and a home victory over Lafayette last weekend. Brent Noseworthy leads the team with seven goals and is tied for the team lead accumulating nine points. Ian King has five goals and four assists on the year, while their starting goalie Tommy Heidt is sporting a 6.13 goals against average.

THE OPENING FACEOFF
The only two Division I schools in the state of Michigan square off in the fourth official annual edition of the Great Lakes State rivalry. U-M leads the overall series, 2-1, but two games have been canceled due to weather in last season and in 2013.

AGAINST THE BIG TEN
This is the 13th time in school history that Detroit Mercy will face a current member of the Big Ten as the red, white and blue are 2-10 all-time against the conference.

The two wins came against Michigan in 2012 and Ohio State in 2015, both at home at Ultimate Soccer Arenas.

THE SERIES
This is the fourth official meeting between Detroit Mercy and Michigan as the Wolverines lead the series, 2-1.

In 2015, Michigan was able to prevail, 15-6 at home, while the other two games were close with the Titans winning 13-9 in 2012 and falling, 14-13, in overtime in 2014, both at home.

In 2013, Detroit Mercy visited U-M in late April and led 4-3 with 6:32 left in the second period when the second lightning delay of the game sent the teams to the locker room. With the storm never letting up, the call was made to suspend the game and it was ultimately canceled.

Meanwhile last season, a snow and ice storm canceled the contest before it even started.
