Ben Kendell took gold in the 3,000m run and the Titans placed in seven events as the Horizon League Indoor Championships came to a close on Sunday from Watson and Tressel Training Site.
Detroit Mercy came up with 22 points on day two of the championships, finishing in a tie for sixth in the standings.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Kendell won the 3,000m in a time of 8:22.42. The win is the first of Kendell's indoor career and second overall (10,000m outdoor in 2015). It is also the first indoor title for the men's side since Eric Lewis took the weight throw in 2013, and first for the program since the women's side took three indoor titles in 2014 – Coppola (mile), DMR and Hunt (pentathlon).
- Arnold and Sims placed in the 400m, with Arnold taking sixth in 49.70 and Sims placing eighth in 49.99.
- Webster finished sixth in the 800m after a run of 1:56.45.
- The relay squad of Sims, Arnold, McClanahan and Webster finished runners-up in the 4x400m after a time of 3:18.04.
- Scalzi recorded a PR of 15.24m (50') in the shot put to place eighth. He's the sixth Titan to clear 50-feet.
- Whitting hit a PR in the heptathlon with 4,417 points, finishing in fifth place. He cleared a PR of 3.65m (11'11.75") in the pole vault, the seventh-best in Titan record book.
STANDINGS
The host Penguins defended their title, taking home the championship with 188 points. Oakland finishes runner-up with 157 points, followed by Milwaukee in third with 108. Valparaiso finishes fourth with 59, followed by UIC with 51. Detroit Mercy and Northern Kentucky tied for sixth with 30 points.
