SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (2/5/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 win over the visiting Racers of Northwestern Ohio on Sunday night from Franklin Athletic Club.
The Titans secured the doubles point and took five of six singles decisions on the path to victory. With the win, Detroit Mercy levels its record at 2-2.
The duo of
Iris Thioux and
Nynke Van Der Goot picked up a 6-1 doubles win from the second position, as did the pairing of
Anna Davydova and
Sara Mitrakovic from the third spot.
Davydova kept the momentum rolling in singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Amanda Schneider on the top line.
Ksenia Providokhina picked up her second singles win of the weekend, cruising to wins of 6-1 and 6-0 on Sunday night.
Thioux and Van Der Goot each picked up straight-set wins from the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, while
Marie Maitrot bounced back from a 2-6 loss in the first set to record wins of 7-5 and 10-4.
The Titans are in action next weekend for the start of a six-game road swing. Detroit Mercy will begin the stretch on Thursday, Feb. 9 against Niagara and continue on to Buffalo on Friday, Feb. 10.
