ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (2/9/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team kicked off a six-game road stretch with a convincing 7-0 win over Niagara University on Thursday afternoon from the Empire State.
The Titans jumped all over the Purple Eagles early by taking all three doubles matches.
Anna Davydova and
Marie Maitrot won from the first position, 6-4, while the pairing of
Iris Thioux and
Nynke Van Der Goot took number two, 6-1.
Sara Mitrakovic and
Ksenia Providokhina added a 6-1 win from the third position.
Detroit Mercy continued the trend in singles, taking all six matches in straight sets.
Davydova won 6-2 and 6-1 from the top line and Van Herck followed suit with a 6-1, 6-2 win from the second position.
Thioux cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win from the third line, with Van Der Goot taking the fourth line by a 6-1, 7-5 decision.
Providokhina took the fifth position 6-3, 6-3, and Mitrakovic completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 win from the final singles line.
With the win, Detroit Mercy improves to 3-2 on the young season.
The Titans will have a quick turnaround with Buffalo on the schedule tomorrow. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. from the Miller Tennis Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
