INDIANAPOLIS (3/1/2017) -- Corey Allen was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Year and junior
Jaleel Hogan earned Second Team All-HL as the conference released its end of the season awards on Wednesday.
The awards were voted on by the league's head coaches, sports information directors and 30 media members.
Allen is just the seventh Titan to earn the rookie accolade - which was called Newcomer of the Year until 2015 - and the second true freshman after Ray McCallum in 2011.
Hogan was honored for the first time in his career, which also marks the eighth-straight year a Titan has been selected All-League.
Allen is the highest scoring freshman in the Horizon League at 14.3 points per game - ninth in the HL and top 20 in the nation among all freshmen. He is also second in the league in three-point field-goal percentage (45.2%) - hitting 76-of-168 on the season - and is third in three-point field goals per game (2.6).Â
In Horizon League only games, he is 11th in scoring with 15.4 a night and is second in three-point field goals (2.6) and fifth in three-point field-goal percentage (42.1%).Â
He has notched double-figures in scoring 19 times this season with nine 20-point games, including a Titan true freshman record of 33 points against Fort Wayne, the most ever by a "true" freshmen since the 31 points put up by Titan Hall-Of-Famer John Long against Bradley in 1975.
Hogan led the Horizon League and is 20th in the nation in field-goal percentage at 59.7 percent. Â He has scored in double digits in 24 of his 29 games played with six 20+ point contests - all in conference play. He also has recorded five double-doubles, one of just eight HL players with at least five double-doubles on the year.Â
He is leading the team and is ninth in the HL in scoring at 15.4 ppg., while standing second on the squad and 10th in the HL in rebounding at 6.0 per night. One of his best games of the year was his career-high 39-point outing at Oakland, where he was 17-of-24 from the field.Â
The Titans will begin their run for a title at the Little Caesars Horizon League basketball championship on Friday, March 3, as No. 7 Detroit Mercy takes on No. 10 Milwaukee at 5:30 p.m., at Joe Louis Arena.
