CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (3/9/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team powered past Chattanooga, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon from the Champions Club in the Volunteer State.
The Titans took the doubles points with wins from the top two lines and clinched the win with three singles victories. The top two lines of singles went unfinished with the Titans leading in the third set.
In doubles, seniors
Chance Conley and
Patryk Koscielski took No. 2, 6-2. Junior
Nathan Ponton and sophomore
Artem Vasheshnikov recorded a 7-5 win from the top line to clinch the point for Detroit Mercy.
Conley kicked off singles with a 7-5, 6-1 win from the sixth position and Ponton followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win from No. 3. After Chattanooga got on the board with a win at No. 4, sophomore
Adam Zychowicz bounced back from a 6-3 loss in the first set to record wins of 6-2 and 6-3 to take No. 5 singles and clinch the win for the red, white and blue.
The Titans improve to 6-8 on the season with the victory. Detroit Mercy will return to the court next weekend at Dayton (Mar. 25) and Indiana (Mar. 26).
