SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (4/15/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Wright State in Horizon League action on Saturday night from Franklin Athletic Club.
After earning the doubles point, the Titans took the first three decisions in singles to clinch the win over the Raiders.
Wright State won the opening doubles set after a 6-2 win at No. 3, but the duo of
Marie Maitrot and
Iris Thioux evened the score at 1-1 after taking the top line. Seniors
Anna Davydova and
Nynke Van Der Goot clinched the doubles point after a hard-fought 7-5 win at No. 2.
Thioux opened singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 and freshmen
Pauline Van Herck and
Ksenia Providokhina sealed the win for the Titans after winning in straight sets from the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
The Raiders took the final three decisions to split singles, 3-3, but it was too late as Detroit Mercy clinched the first four points of the match.
Detroit Mercy improves to 7-10 overall and 3-2 in Horizon League play with the win, while Wright State falls to 13-12 on the season and 3-4 in conference action.
The Titans are back at it tomorrow with Senior Day against Northern Kentucky. Detroit Mercy will honor Davydova and Van Der Goot prior to the match, which is set for a 1 p.m. start from Franklin Athletic Club.
