DETROIT (6/15/2017) -- University of Detroit Mercy standout and recent graduate
Rosanna Reynolds (Canton, Mich. / Divine Child) received another honor from the Detroit Catholic League, as she was inducted into the DCL Hall of Fame on Monday. She joins former Titan standout student-athlete
Kylie Birney (Plymouth, Mich. / Ladywood), who was inducted as part of the 2016 class.
Both Reynolds and Birney received their Master's diplomas in May after completing the Business Administration program at the University. Reynolds and Birney also each earned the highest award for a senior student-athlete at the school, receiving the Detroit Mercy Athletic Department's President's Award.
Reynolds just recently completed a historic women's basketball career, finishing third all-time in scoring (1,745 points) and first in career assists (552). She became just the second player in school history to be voted All-Conference three times, earning First Team laurels in each of the past two seasons. Reynolds was named the Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Season during her junior year and was the only Horizon League men's or women's basketball student-athlete to earn a nomination as a Senior Class Award candidate during 2016-17.
Reynolds, who earned a Class B state championship with Divine Child as a junior in high school, broke the school record during her senior season for most games started (129) and became the first player in school history to reach the 1,500-points, 500-rebounds and 500-assists plateau. She holds five career records following this past season -- minutes played, minutes played per game, total assists, assists per game and games started.
Detroit Mercy women's basketball head coach
Bernard Scott was on hand Monday to help present Reynolds with her Hall of Fame plaque at the Fern Hill Country Club in Clinton Township.
Birney was inducted into the Detroit Catholic League Hall of Fame in 2016 following a standout women's lacrosse career for the red, white and blue. She was a two-time ASUN Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the 2016 IWLCA Division I Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earning the honor over all other Division I women's lacrosse student-athletes from across the nation.
Birney, who became the fourth player in school history to reach 100 career goals as a Titan, was also voted to the CoSIDA Academic Women's At-Large Team, becoming the first on the women's side to earn the honor since 1984. She was a three-time co-captain for the Titans and a three-time All-League honoree. At the conclusion of her career, Birney ranked in the top-seven in many statistical categories, including tied-for-third in goals (110) and second in games player (73).
The Titans have a long history with student-athletes being inducted into the Detroit Catholic League Hall of Fame, including Nicole Anaejionu (Birmingham Marian, 2004), Vince Banonis (Detroit Catholic Central, induction 1976), Dave DeBusschere (Detroit Austin, 1976), Caitlin Goddard (Madison Heights Bishop Foley, 2006), Melissa Harakas (Livonia Ladywood, 2005), Michael Jackson (U of D Jesuit, 1995), Dwayne Kelley (Redford Bishop Borgess, 1993), Bob Miller (St. Mary of Redford, 2009), Brigid Mulroy (Birmingham Marian, 2010), Katie Solner (Birmingham Marian, 2006) and Anne Yoches (Dearborn Divine Child, 2001).
