Titans to Compete in 2017 San Juan Shootout Over Thanksgiving

DETROIT (6/24/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball program and head coach Bernard Scott have announced that the Titans have been selected to play in the 2017 San Juan Shootout in San Juan, Puerto Rico over the Thanksgiving weekend.

The Titans are slated to play in back-to-back games on Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25. Game times, opponents and the full schedule of games have not yet been finalized and released. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Detroit Mercy will be playing in its second-straight Thanksgiving weekend tournament after taking part in the CSUN Thanksgiving Classic last season. It offers the student-athletes and their families a memorable and unique basketball experience.

"This trip is an amazing opportunity for our student-athletes," Scott said. "This is an experience that's possible because they are student-athletes at Detroit Mercy. We are going to play two competitive games but we are also going to see the sites and enjoy everything Puerto Rico has to offer. Many of our parents will be taking the trip as well which is always nice to travel with family! We are looking forward to it."

The San Juan Shootout has been running since 1987. It's the first time Detroit Mercy has played outside the United State since the 1997-98 campaign, when the Titans also took part in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico. Detroit Mercy also competed in the San Juan Shootout during the 1994-95 season and hold a 2-4 all-time record at the tournament with wins over Michigan State and Southern Illinois.

The Titans enter their third season under Scott after two-straight winning campaigns, including a trip to the Horizon League Championship game this past season. Detroit Mercy returns three starters next season, including All-Horizon League performer Brianne Cohen among other key contributors.
