Titan Basketball All Over The Professional Map

DETROIT (8/4/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball program has always produced professional players and the past two weeks have seen a bevy of Titans sign pro contracts.

The newest member of the Titan professional club is 2017 graduate Chris Jenkins as he will suit up for Bambitious Nara in Japan. 

Jenkins played three seasons for the Titans after transferring from Colorado. The Detroit native finished his career with 870 points, 466 rebounds, 104 assists and 65 steals and is eighth all-time in school history shooting 40.2 percent from behind the arc. As a senior, he led the team and tied for sixth in the Horizon League with a career-high 6.7 rebounds per game, while also ranking fourth on the team and 20th in the league in scoring at 11.6 per contest. 

Ray McCallum – who recently played with the Houston Rockets in the Las Vegas NBA Summer League and has spent the last three seasons in the NBA – signed with Unicaja Malaga of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, one of the best basketball league in Europe. 

The former Horizon League Player of the Year was a three-year starter at Detroit Mercy from 2010-13, where he averaged 15.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.7 steals. He totaled 1,618 career points is good for eighth in school history, while his 451 assists rank seventh. He helped the team win the 2012 Horizon League title and earn a bid to the NIT in 2013. 

Nick Minnerath will continue his professional career in China with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association. His professional career has seen him play in the NBA Summer League and in the NBA Development League as well as overseas in Spain, France and Russia before his arrival in China. 

Last year in Russia with Avtodor Saratov, he led his league in scoring at 23.3 points per game as well as the European-wide third tier level Basketball Champions League at 20.3 points per game.

Evan Bruinsma will play this fall with Donar, a professional basketball club based in Groningen, Netherlands. Bruinsma has played the last three years overseas with stops in Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Malta and the Czech Republic. He has also played in the Champions League and in the FIBA Europe Cup.

Chase Simon, another member of the 2012 Horizon League championship team, just signed with JL Bourg-en-Bresse of the French Pro A League. His overseas career has seen him play Greece, Israel, Lithuania, Poland and Spain as well as the NBA Summer League. 

Some other players who played professionally this past season and are still under contract or pursuing new teams include Paris Bass (NBA G League), Chris Hayes (Brazil), Juwan Howard Jr. (Mexico), Eli Holman (China), Thomas Kennedy (Japan), Brandan Kearney (Canada), Jermaine Lippert (Germany) and Anton Wilson (Switzerland).
