Â
The event's opener between Michigan and Detroit Mercy, will be the first college basketball game at Little Caesars Arena – paying homage to the first event at Joe Louis Arena on Dec. 12, 1979 – and renews an in-state rivalry that was last played in 2014. Corey Allen.

The second game of the doubleheader features a Michigan State team that will enter the season as a consensus top-five team in the nation and defending Horizon League regular season champion and 25-game winner Oakland. The two intrastate foes have met on the hardwood in 11 of the past 12 seasons, with this year's matchup marking the sixth consecutive season the two programs will face off.
