DETROIT (1/11/2018) -- Off an exciting win over Cleveland State, the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will look to close its homestand with another victory as the Titans host the Youngstown State Penguins on Friday, Jan. 12.Â
Game time is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN3 with
Dan Dickerson and Earl Cureton on the call as well as over the airwaves with
Cliff Russell providing the action on 910 AM Superstation.
Detroit Mercy has played some tight games of late and finally pulled one out against Cleveland State as the Titans overcame an 11-point deficit to win at the buzzer, 85-84, with sophomore
Corey Allen driving to the rim for the game-winning layup.

- Detroit Mercy has dominated the all-time series to the tune of a 35-9 advantage, which includes winning nine in a row and 13 of the last 14.Â

CALIHAN HALL TURNS 65
- The 2017-18 season marks the 65th anniversary of historic Calihan Hall.
- The dedication of the University's Memorial Building, as it was known back then, took place May 25, 1952. The first basketball game was played Dec. 2 of that year when the U-D men beat Kalamazoo, 75-61.Â
- In 1977, the name was changed to Calihan Hall in honor of the Titans' first basketball All-American, the late Bob Calihan.
- On Dec. 5, 2011, the floor of Calihan Hall was dedicated to former coach Dick Vitale. Â

- The 13 opponents on the Titan non-conference schedule combined to go 257-205 (55.6%) last season, and the 11 DI foes are 116-70 (62.3%) already on the year.Â
- That number has the Titan non-conference schedule ranked 45th overall in the nation.Â
TAKING ADVANTAGE
- Detroit Mercy has done a great job at the free throw line connecting on 74.4 percent, third in the HL and 49th in the country.
- Detroit Mercy has hit 80.0 percent or more at the line in seven games, including some great performances in 18-of-22 at Virginia Tech, 20-of-23 versus Seattle, 13-of-15 in the road win at Saint Louis, 12-of-14 versus Toledo and 17-of-20 against Western Michigan. Â
- Some of the top free throw shooters include Jermaine Jackson Jr. (90.5%, 38-of-42), Kameron Chatman (86.7%, 52-of-60), Josh McFolley (80.3%, 49-of-61) and Corey Allen (80.0%, 48-of-60).Â
- In fact, Jackson Jr. tops the HL at the charity stripe and would be top 15 in the nation, but does not have enough makes to qualify.
HIGH POWERED OFFENSE
- The Titans currently rank first in the Horizon League and 45th in the nation in scoring offense at 81.7 points per game.Â
- Detroit Mercy has scored at least 71 points in 15 games, including three 100+point efforts.Â
CLEAN THE GLASS
- The Titans have won the battle of the boards three times in the last five games, with the other two contests coming up equal.
- Detroit Mercy outrebounded NKU, by a 48-47 margin, the second most rebounds on the season behind only the 49 versus HBU.Â
- The red, white and blue currently rank third in the Horizon League in rebounding at 37.3 per game.

- The Titans have used 10 different starting line-ups so far on the season.
- Only Jermaine Jackson Jr. has started all 18 games this year for the red, white and blue.Â
EXPLOSIVE
- The Titans shot over 50.0 percent for the third time this season in the win over Cleveland State, but the story was the 70.4 percent (19-of-27) they shot in the second half, scoring 53 points in the process.Â
ONE STRONG CHATMAN
- Redshirt junior Kameron Chatman - who missed the last two games with an injury - has been one of the most productive transfers in the NCAA.Â
- On the year, he has started all 16 games he has played in and had netted seven 20-point games and six double-doubles.Â
- Chatman leads the team and is:
- * 4th in the HL in scoring at 18.0 ppg.
- * 2nd in the HL in rebounding at 8.8 rpg.
- * 1st in the HL in 3-point shooting at 46.2%
- He started conference play with two-straight 20-point games netting 22 at Green Bay - along with 11 rebounds and a career-high five assists - and 20 at Milwaukee, while adding another double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds against Wright State.Â
- His seven 20-point games on the year are third in the HL, while his six double-doubles are tied for second in the conference.
JJJ FILLING UP THE STAT SHEET
- Rookie Jermaine Jackson Jr. posted stats all around as a true freshman on the road in his collegiate debut at Virginia Tech tallying 16 points with seven rebounds and three assists.Â
- The seven rebounds tied for the team lead, while his six defensive caroms led the team.Â
- He tallied a season-high 25 points at Green Bay - where he was 8-of-14 from the field with a season-high seven 3-pointers and has scored in double figures in 12 games on the yearÂ
- Jackson Jr. is currently third on the team averaging 11.3 points to go with a team-best 3.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals.Â
- He also has 60 assists and just 37 turnovers for a 1.6 ratio, eighth in the HL.Â
- Jackson Jr. leads all league rookies in made 3-pointers and is second in scoring, assists and steals.Â

- Sophomore Corey Allen has been in double figures in 14 of his 17 games with four 20+ contests and a pair of 30+ games.Â
- He has also set a career high in rebounds with 13 against NKU and tied his career best with five assists three times this season.Â
- He is coming off another great game where he had 25 points - 22 in the second half - on 9-of-14 from the field with four 3-pointers, while registering eight rebounds and a career-tying five assists against Cleveland State. He also had the game-winner as time expired.Â
- On the season, he is second on the team in scoring at 15.8 points per game - seventh in the HL - and ranks second on the team and eighth in the league in three-point shooting (38.5%) as well as third on the team in overall shooting (45.1%).Â
COREY SEEING DOUBLE
- Sophomore Corey Allen recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-best 13 rebounds against NKU.
- He almost had another double-double ending with 25 points and eight rebounds against Cleveland State his last time out. Â Â
KAM'S THE MAN
- The Titans needed everyone's help to get the overtime victory over Houston Baptist on Nov. 19 and redshirt junior Kameron Chatman did his part posting his first career double-double with 22 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
- At Saint Louis on Nov. 22, he posted 18 points and nine rebounds, but his biggest play was the game-winning shot with one second left.
- He tallied a career-high 31 points with 10 rebounds and three steals at Fort Wayne on Nov. 28, going a career-best 11-of-15 from the field and 5-of-6 from behind the arc.Â
OUR ROYAL PRINCE
- Graduate senior Roschon Prince is starting to find his rhythm at Detroit Mercy as he was in double figures in scoring again with a season-high 19 points and eight rebounds against Cleveland State.
- The 19 points was the most he has scored in a game since netting 21 at Cal-State Fullerton last season as a member of Long Beach State.
- He ended with 10 points - hitting all five of his shots - against Wright State and almost recorded his second double-double of the year with nine points and 10 boards versus NKU.Â
- He posted his first Titan double-double - and the seventh of his career - with 11 points and 10 rebounds at Milwaukee.
- After averaging 5.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in his first 12 games, Prince is tallying 11.6 points and 6.6 rebounds, while shooting 68.5% from the field in the last five contests.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE
- The Titans had two players record double-doubles against Wright State, the first time that has happened since last season against Milwaukee.
- Redshirt junior Kameron Chatman posted 13 points and 12 rebounds and junior Tariiq Jones had 15 points and 10 boards.Â
REACHING 100
- The Titans reached the 100-point mark for the third time this season with a 131-69 victory over Siena Heights on Nov. 25.Â
- The Titans also reached 100 in a 116-109 victory over Houston Baptist in overtime and a 105-82 win over UM-Dearborn.Â
- The 131 points are the fourth most in school history and the most since tallying a school record 135 against CCNY in 1979.Â
- The 116 points against HBU at the 2K Sports Classic Belmont Subregional broke Belmont's Curb Event Center record for most points.
- Detroit Mercy has now reached 100 points 94 times in its history and the three times in a season is the most since hitting 100 on three occasions during the 1979-80 campaign. Â
LET IT FLY
- Detroit Mercy set a school record hoisting up 43 three-point attempts against Houston Baptist on Nov. 19, nailing 12 of them.
- The previous record was 36 against Dayton in 1991.Â
- Against Siena Heights, Detroit Mercy was 17-of-28 from behind the arc, just one triple shy of tying the school record of 18 against Milwaukee on Feb. 26, 2000.Â
- The Titans just connected on 13-of-19 against Cleveland State and have now hit 10 or more 3-pointers in eight games this season and are second in the Horizon League with 8.9 triples per game, 75th in the nation.Â
A LONG DAY
- Sophomore Cole Long made his first start of the season against ETSU and he made the most of it scoring a career-high 10 points and handing out a career-best four assists.
- He also grabbed three rebounds in 27 minutes of action.Â
PICKING YOUR POCKET
- Junior Josh McFolley is tied for seventh in the Horizon League with 1.43 steals per game.Â
- He has three games on the year with at least three steals, including tying his career high with five against Siena Heights.Â
- In his career, he has recorded a steal in 61 of his 79 career games, including 25 multi-steal contests and 13 with at least three takeaways.
- McFolley led the conference in steals per game (2.00) and total steals (62), ranking 26th and 35th in the NCAA, respectively, last season.
- His 123 career steals has him approaching top 10 status in school history.
MCFOLLEY LEADS THE WAY
- Junior Josh McFolley broke out with 14 points in the first half and finished with 22 in the road victory at Saint Louis on Nov. 22.Â
- He totaled 15 points against Siena Heights connecting on three triples and tying his career high with five steals and posted his second 20-point game of the season with a team-high 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting with three 3-pointers against Toledo on Dec. 6.
- He just scored 13 points with three 3-pointers in the win over Cleveland State.Â
- McFolley now has nine career 20-point games along with 138 career 3-pointers, tied for 10th in school history.Â
JACK CAN BALL
- Freshman Jack Ballantyne posted a season-high nine points with four rebounds against Siena Heights.Â
- He is coming off a game where he had eight points and a season-high four assists in the victory over Cleveland State.Â
- He grabbed a season-best five boards against Western Michigan, and in his collegiate debut, he knocked down a three at Virginia Tech midway through the first half that gave the Titans a 24-23 lead at the time.Â
BLACKSHEAR JR. ON THE BOARDS
- Junior Gerald Blackshear Jr., tied his season high with seven rebounds against Cleveland State, also reaching that mark against UM-Dearborn.Â
- He is also shooting 71.9 percent from the field in limited opportunities (23-of-32).
- Last season, he averaged 5.9 points and 4.0 rebounds shooting 61.3 percent (73-of-119), while as a freshman, he tallied 55.2 percent from the field (48-of-87).Â
