Titans Host Nationally-Ranked Green Bay on Thursday

DETROIT (1/17/2018) -- Following a road win Saturday at UIC, the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team plays four its next five from the confines of Calihan Hall, first welcoming nationally-ranked Green Bay for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday.

The game may be seen live on ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN Applications with the Voice of the Titans, Denny Kapp, calling all of the action.

The Titans and Green Bay are meeting for the 56th time in women's basketball with the Phoenix holding the all-time series lead, 47-8. Detroit Mercy went 1-2 against Green Bay last season, defeating Green Bay at home during the regular season before falling 64-52 in the Horizon League Championship game on March 7, 2017.

Seniors Brianne Cohen and Nicole Urbanick continue to hit career milestones, with Cohen becoming the 12th player in school history to surpass 1,300 points and Urbanick moving into a tie-for-second all-time in career 3-pointers made (217). Cohen is nearing the top 10 in career scoring and is 25 points back of ninth place all-time.

Detroit Mercy defeated No. 21/24-ranked Green Bay last season at home, hitting 8-of-9 triples in the opening quarter, scoring 30 first-quarter points and shooting 56 percent overall for the game in a 76-72 victory. The Titans tied a school record with 16 treys in the contest as Nicole Urbanick went 6-for-6 from behind the arc.

The Titans are 24-18 in Horizon League contests all-time under third-year head coach Bernard Scott. Detroit Mercy went 12-6 last season en route to a third-place finish before reaching the Horizon League Championship game.

Last Time Out
Behind a hot-shooting start to the game and several clutch moments late, the Titans earned a wire-to-wire victory at UIC on Saturday, 61-58.

Detroit Mercy opened the contest on fire from the field, sinking 9-of-13 shots (69 percent) in the first quarter to take a 24-10 lead after one frame. The Titans continued to play strong on both ends throughout the game, especially in the final minutes.

The victory was a total team effort Saturday, with six players scoring eight points or better and several players contributing in key moments in the victory. Detroit Mercy shot 52 percent in the first half and 45.8 percent (22-for-48) overall in the contest.

Cohen had a team-best 13 points, while junior Brittney Jackson, freshman Lexey Tobel and Urbanick all were also in double figures with 10 points each. Marinkovic and Oatis each added eight points, while Miller grabbed a career-high nine rebounds.

The Titans finished the game 13-of-15 from the free throw line (season-best 86.7 percent) and had five blocks.

Scouting Green Bay
The Phoenix are 15-2 overall and 5-1 in league play following a four-game win streak in the past two weeks. Green Bay topped previously unbeaten in the league IUPUI on the road, 60-34, on Monday.

The Phoenix have five wins overall in the league this season, topping Wright State and the Jags on the road and also defeating Milwaukee, Youngstown State and Cleveland State at home. Green Bay's lone loss was at Northern Kentucky, 62-54, on Dec. 30.

Green Bay leads the nation in scoring defense (46.6 points allowed per game) and ranks No. 2 in field goal percentage defense (31.6). The Phoenix are also tops in the Horizon League and No. 2 in the country in 3-point FG defense (24.4).

Jessica Lindstrom and Allie LeClaire lead the team in scoring at 14.1 and 13.6 points per game, respectively. Lindstrom leads the Horizon League in rebounding at 9.6 boards per game. She also is among the league leaders with 31 triples on the season.

All-Time Series
The Titans are 8-47 all-time against Green Bay in the series that started in 1995. Detroit Mercy is 6-17 all-time in home games at Calihan Hall against the Phoenix.

Detroit Mercy won the meeting at Calihan Hall last season, topping Green Bay 76-72 on Feb. 4, 2017. The two sides then met in the Horizon League championship game with the top-seeded Phoenix winning, 64-52.
