INDIANAPOLIS (1/19/2018) -- Some of the best and brightest student-athletes at the University of Detroit Mercy were honored today for their work in the classroom as the Horizon League announced its 2017 Fall Academic Honor Roll today.
In total, 79 Titans earned a spot on the academic list ranking ninth overall in the league, but if you take out the sports of baseball, men's and women's swimming and diving and volleyball, Detroit Mercy had the second most honorees in the conference.
Men's soccer led its respective sport category with 17 selections, while softball's 10 selections, women's golf's five and women's tennis' five student-athletes were tied for first in their respective sport.Â
A total of 994 student-athletes achieved academic honor roll distinctions for the fall of 2017 semester with all 10 members and 19 Horizon League-sponsored sports represented.
Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify:
- Participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports.
- Completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution.
- A cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
Sports with the most representation were women's track and field/cross country with 144 student-athletes, women's soccer had 126 members and women's swimming and diving was the third highest group with 89 honorees. Â
