DETROIT (2/3/2018) -- Super Bowl LII may start at 6:30, but the Titans will look to celebrate a couple of hours before kick-off as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team hosts UIC on Sunday, Feb. 4.
Game time is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and locally on WADL-38 with
Dan Dickerson and Earl Cureton on the call, while 910 AM Superstation will carry the game over the airwaves with the Voice of the Titans
Cliff Russell.
The Titans were shorthanded on Friday, but that didn't stop them from earning a big win as they led all game long in the 74-60 triumph over IUPUI. Detroit Mercy had nine players available due to injury and illness and five scored in double figures.

ALL-TIME MATCH-UP
- Detroit Mercy has been on the good side of the scoreboard recently against UIC as the Titans have won eight of the last 11 and 11 of the last 15 against the Flames to lead the overall series, 31-17.
- UIC did get the edge last season winning both meetings.Â
- The Titans are also 18-6 all-time against the Flames at home, winning five of the last seven in Calihan Hall.Â
CALIHAN HALL TURNS 65
- The 2017-18 season marks the 65th anniversary of historic Calihan Hall.
- The dedication of the University's Memorial Building, as it was known back then, took place May 25, 1952. The first basketball game was played Dec. 2 of that year when the U-D men beat Kalamazoo, 75-61.Â
- In 1977, the name was changed to Calihan Hall in honor of the Titans' first basketball All-American, the late Bob Calihan.
- On Dec. 5, 2011, the floor of Calihan Hall was dedicated to former coach Dick Vitale. Â

- The Titans have used 14 different starting line-ups so far on the season.
- Also, no Titan has started all 24 games, while only two have played in all 24 games in senior DeShawndre Black and junior Josh McFolley.Â
HIGH POWERED OFFENSE
- The Titans currently rank third in the Horizon League and 66th in the nation in scoring offense at 78.7 points per game.Â
- Detroit Mercy has scored at least 71 points in 17 games, including three 100+point efforts.Â
ONE STRONG CHATMAN
- Kameron Chatman - who missed three games with an injury before coming back at IUPUI - has been one of the most productive transfers in the NCAA.Â
- Chatman leads the team and is:
- * T4th in the HL in scoring at 17.8 ppg.
- * 3rd in the HL in rebounding at 8.8 rpg.
- * 1st in the HL in 3-point shooting at 46.5%
- He started conference play with two-straight 20-point games netting 22 at Green Bay - along with 11 rebounds and a career-high five assists - and 20 at Milwaukee, while adding another double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds against Wright State.Â
- His seven double-doubles are fourth in the conference.
ANOTHER 20 FOR CHATMAN
- Redshirt junior Kameron Chatman just posted his 10th, 20-point game of the season tallying a game-high 21 points along with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals against IUPUI.Â
- The 10, 20-point games are the most since Paris Bass posted 13 in 2015-16 as well as fourth in the Horizon League.Â
- Chatman is also leading the team in rebounding at 8.8 per night and is trying to become just the sixth Titan since 1980 to lead the team in scoring and rebounding.
LET IT FLY
- Detroit Mercy set a school record hoisting up 43 three-point attempts against Houston Baptist on Nov. 19, nailing 12 of them.
- The previous record was 36 against Dayton in 1991.Â
- Against Siena Heights, Detroit Mercy was 17-of-28 from behind the arc, just one triple shy of tying the school record of 18 against Milwaukee on Feb. 26, 2000.Â
- After going three games in a row knocking in no more than six treys, the Titans have now hit 10 or more triples in five of their last seven games including 13-of-29 versus Cleveland State, 12-of-25 against Youngstown State, 11-of-29 at IUPUI, 11-of-28 against Oakland and 12-of-27 at Wright State.Â
- They have also nailed 10 or more 3-pointers in 12 games this season and lead the HL with 9.1 triples per game, 56th in the nation.Â
TAKING ADVANTAGE
- Detroit Mercy has done a great job at the free throw line connecting on 74.3 percent, third in the HL and 80th in the country.
- Detroit Mercy has hit 80.0 percent or more at the line in eight games, including some great performances in 16-of-20 versus IUPUI, 18-of-22 at Virginia Tech, 20-of-23 versus Seattle, 13-of-15 in the road win at Saint Louis and 17-of-20 against Western Michigan. Â
- Some of the top free throw shooters include Jermaine Jackson Jr. (86.5%, 45-of-52), Kameron Chatman (86.7%, 65-of-75), Corey Allen (81.0%, 68-of-84) and Josh McFolley (78.3%, 54-of-69), who all reside in the top 15 in the Horizon League.Â
SECOND HALF FIREPOWER
- The Titans shot over 50.0 percent for the fourth time this season against Oakland, ending at 52.5 percent (33-of-63), including 67.7 percent (21-of-31) in the second half with seven three-pointers and 57 total points.Â
- In the win over Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy shot 70.4 percent (19-of-27) in the second half, scoring 53 points in the process.Â
- In the win against Youngstown State, the Titans shot 47.0 percent overall, but 58.6 percent (17-of-29) in the second half where they were also 8-of-11 from behind the arc and scored 59 points.Â
- Detroit Mercy ranks second in the league in three-point field goal percentage (35.8%) and sixth in field goal shooting (43.7%).Â
HE CAN SCORE
- Sophomore Corey Allen has been in double figures in 16 of his 22 games with six 20+ contests and three 30+ games.Â
- He tied for the team lead with 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting with five treys against Oakland.
- He poured in a game-high 25 points going 9-of-14 from the field with eight rebounds and had the game-winning layup as time expired over Cleveland State. He followed that up with a game-high 34 points on 8-of-16 shooting with five 3-pointers and a career-best 13-of-16 at the line against Youngstown State.Â
JJJ FILLING UP THE STAT SHEET
- Rookie Jermaine Jackson Jr. posted stats all around as a true freshman on the road in his collegiate debut at Virginia Tech tallying 16 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Â
- He tallied his third 20-point game of the season with a game-high 22 points at IUPUI.Â
- Jackson Jr. had a monster game scoring a season-best 32 points against Youngstown State - one shy of a Titan freshman record - on 12-of-17 shooting with six 3-pointers.Â
- He is the only freshman in the Horizon League this season with a 30-point game.Â
- The rookie tallied a then season-high 25 points at Green Bay - where he was 8-of-14 from the field with a season-high seven 3-pointers and has now scored in double figures in 14 games on the year.
- Jackson Jr. is currently third on the team averaging 11.6 points to go with a team-best 2.9 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals.Â
- He also has 66 assists and just 45 turnovers for a 1.5 ratio, eighth in the HL.Â
- Jackson Jr. leads all league rookies in made 3-pointers and free throw percentage and is second in scoring, assists and third in steals.Â
OUR ROYAL PRINCE
- Graduate senior Roschon Prince was back in double figures with 14 points against IUPUI and has now been in double figures in scoring six times in the last 11 games.
- He had 10 points and nine rebounds against Youngstown State and that was after a season-high 19 points and eight rebounds versus Cleveland State.
- He ended with 10 points - hitting all five of his shots - against Wright State and almost recorded a double-double with nine points and 10 boards versus NKU.Â
- He posted his first Titan double-double - and the seventh of his career - with 11 points and 10 rebounds at Milwaukee.
- After averaging 5.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in his first 12 games, Prince is tallying 9.8 points and 5.7 rebounds, while shooting 59.5 percent from the field in conference play.
A LONG DAY
- Sophomore Cole Long is coming off a career day as he netted a career-high 12 points with seven assists along with a season-high five rebounds against IUPUI his last time out.
- He also blocked two shots and that was after recording a career-high three at NKU.
- Long made his first start of the season against ETSU and he made the most of it scoring 10 points and handing out four assists.
- He also picked up five assists against Youngstown State.
DRE DAY
- Senior DeShawndre Black stepped into the starting role against IUPUI and he was a big reason for the Titan win as he finished with 13 points, three assists and three rebounds.
- It was only his second double-digit scoring effort of the season behind the 14 versus Siena Heights and two away from his career high of 15 against Green Bay last year.Â
GIVE ME THAT
- The Titans set a school record with 25 steals - while forcing 36 turnovers - against Siena Heights on Nov. 25.
- Detroit Mercy has now forced 35 turnovers in the last two games and its 11 steals against IUPUI was the most against a DI opponent since posting 11 versus Milwaukee in the opening round of the HL Championship last season.Â
PAIR OF 30'S
- Maybe a Titan first in the long and storied history of the program as two players went for 30 points in the win over Youngstown State.
- Sophomore Corey Allen led the way with 34 points, while freshman Jermaine Jackson Jr. tallied 32.Â
- It is the most points by a pair of Titans since Feb. 27, 2000, when Desmond Ferguson (35) and Rashad Phillips (28) totaled 63 in am 88-48 win over Milwaukee.Â
- Research is still being conducted to see if two Titans with 30 points has ever happened in school history.Â

- Sophomore Corey Allen tallied his third 30-point game of the year - and fourth of his career - with a game-high 34 points against Youngstown State.
- He was 8-of-16 from the field, 5-of-9 from three and a career-best 13-of-16 at the free throw line, netting 22 in the second half.Â
- Allen poured in 32 against Western Michigan on Dec. 9 going 12-of-21 overall with five treys and scored 19 points in the second half.Â
- Earlier this season against Houston Baptist, he posted a game, career-high and Belmont Curb Event Center record with 39 shooting 12-of-20 from the field and 7-of-13 from long range to go with a career-tying five assists.Â
- The 39 points were the most since Jaleel Hogan had 39 in a win at Oakland last year and are the most by any player in the HL this season.Â
- His three 30-point games are tied for the second most in the conference and are the most by a Titan since Willie Green had five during the 2002-03 campaign.
KAM'S THE MAN
- The Titans needed everyone's help to get the overtime victory over Houston Baptist on Nov. 19 and redshirt junior Kameron Chatman did his part posting his first career double-double with 22 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
- At Saint Louis on Nov. 22, he posted 18 points and nine rebounds, but his biggest play was the game-winning shot with one second left.
- He tallied a career-high 31 points with 10 rebounds and three steals at Fort Wayne on Nov. 28, going a career-best 11-of-15 from the field and 5-of-6 from behind the arc.Â
MCFOLLEY LEADS THE WAY
- Junior Josh McFolley broke out with 14 points in the first half and finished with 22 in the road victory at Saint Louis on Nov. 22.Â
- He totaled 15 points against Siena Heights connecting on three triples and tying his career high with five steals and posted his second 20-point game of the season with a team-high 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting with three 3-pointers against Toledo on Dec. 6.
- He scored 13 points with three 3-pointers in the win over Cleveland State.Â
- McFolley now has nine career 20-point games along with 145 career 3-pointers, 10th in school history.Â
PICKING YOUR POCKET
- Junior Josh McFolley is tied for seventh in the Horizon League with 1.3 steals per game.Â
- He has four games on the year with at least three steals, including tying his career high with five against Siena Heights.Â
- In his career, he has recorded a steal in 63 of his 85 career games, including 26 multi-steal contests and 14 with at least three takeaways.
- McFolley led the conference in steals per game (2.00) and total steals (62), ranking 26th and 35th in the NCAA, respectively, last season.
- His 128 career steals has him approaching top 10 status in school history.
