INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (3/1/2018) -- University of Detroit Mercy senior guard Nicole Urbanick (Grosse Ile, Mich. / Divine Child) was voted to the five-member 2018 Horizon League Women's Basketball All-Academic Team, with the league announcing the honors Thursday morning.

The All-Academic Team is voted on the Faculty Athletic Representatives from each Horizon League school. Urbanick earns the honor for the first time in her Titan career. It's the fourth-straight season that Detroit Mercy has had at least one student-athlete on the five-member All-Academic Team.

The senior has played in all 29 games this season for the Titans, starting 28 contests. Urbanick became the 22nd player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points this season and also broke the all-time mark in career 3-pointers on Senior Night vs. Oakland. She has 239 career 3-pointers following the regular season.

In the classroom, Urbanick holds a 3.71 GPA and is enrolled in a Pre-Dental program at the University, majoring in Bio-Chemistry. She has earned Horizon League Fall & Spring Academic Honor Roll laurels in 2015-16 and 2016-17, as well as Detroit Mercy Athletic Directors Honor Roll accolades in each semester eligible.

Urbanick ranks third on the Titans in scoring this season at 8.5 points per game and is tied for first with a career-high 57 assists. She ranks second in 3-pointers made this season with 44 and is third on the team in rebounding (3.9 boards per game). She also has a career-high 17 blocks. Like throughout her career, Urbanick is among the Horizon League leaders in minutes played this season and ranks No. 1 on the Titans with 922 minutes played entering the tournament.

Ninth-seeded Detroit Mercy opens Horizon League Championship play on Friday, March 2 at 2:30 p.m., taking on No. 8 seed Northern Kentucky from Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit. The Titans would play again at 2:30 p.m. Saturday with a victory over the Norse in the first round.
