Biography

2009-10: One of the senior captains, Troy was the recipient of the team’s Scholar-Athlete award for the second straight year…Finished his collegiate career with over 40 victories at the Division I level playing No. 2, 3 and 4 singles…Totaled nine singles wins and 11 doubles tallies in his final campaign…Had two conference singles wins on the year with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Valparaiso’s Chris Baum and a 6-3, 6-0 triumph against Patrick Hamning of Youngstown State…Was 3-0 at the IPFW Fall Invite to claim the Flight B singles title…One of the Titan SAAC representatives as well as a member of the Detroit Athletic Director’s and Horizon League’s Honor Roll.

2008-09: Received the team’s Scholar-Athlete Award…Went 13-11 in doubles and 9-13 in singles before an injury shortened his season…His doubles wins were tied with partner Nick Tolomei for the most on the squad…Rebounded after dropping his first match as a Titan by winning his next two en route to the No. 2 singles flight title at the Detroit Titan Fall Invitational...He and Tolomei also secured three victories and the No. 3 doubles championship at that event...Paired with Tolomei again, the Titan duo reached the finals of the Flight D bracket at the Ball State Fall Invitational... That same Titan tandem went 3-2 in conference play with wins over Youngstown State (8-3), UIC (9-7) and Wright State (8-2), along with regional victories against Michigan State (9-7) and Toledo (9-7)…Twice defeated Patrick Hamning of Youngstown State 6-3, 6-4 at the Valpo Fall Invite as well as 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 in the Titans 4-3 win against the Penguins, the first Titan conference win since 1993…Rallied against UIC’s Danny Wilson for a 2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-4 tally at No. 3…An AD honor roll recipient as well as a member of the UDM Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Prior To Detroit: A key member of the Grand Valley State University program, helping the Lakers advance to two NCAA Division II regionals… Played primarily No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles at GVSU, compiling a 44-20 record in singles and 38-28 mark in doubles…As a freshman, Troy went 24-9 in singles and 22-12 in doubles competition, ending the year with second team All-GLIAC honors …Came right back as a sophomore with 37 overall victories, once again earning second team all-conference accolades… Named to the ITA All-Academic Team both years...Prior to college, he attended Brother Rice High School where he was a four-year letterwinner under current Titan head coach Grant Asher… A two-time all-state and all-area selection, Troy compiled a 70-13 record in high school, winning the No. 4 state championship as a freshman and the No. 3 singles title as a junior…Led the Warriors to four-straight catholic league and regional championships...Earned the SEMTA Hoxie Award for sportsmanship as a junior and senior as well as the Catholic League Operation Friendship award as a senior…Ranked in the top 75 in the midwest as a senior...A member of the National Honor Society.

Personal: Son of Mary Ann and Joseph Troy... During his time in school, he was a volunteer at the St. Joseph Mercy Oakland hospital...His grandfather, Joseph George, graduated from U-D and the law school in the 1920’s…Lists his biggest thrill in sports as winning two state titles in high school as well as appearing in two NCAA tournament matches…Has one sister… Majoring in nursing.
