Biography

Career: Finishes his career with a 38-40 record in singles play (7th in school history) and a 39-42 mark in doubles play (5th in school history).

2012-13: Finished the year with a 9-10 (2-3 HL) in singles play with a 6-3 record at fourth singles and a perfect 2-0 mark at fifth singles… Had a 9-6 (3-3 HL) record in doubles play with an 8-5 record at second doubles and a 1-0 record at third doubles… Earned a singles win in the fall against Toledo… Represented his home country of Costa Rica in the X Central American Games and came away with a bronze medal… Took doubles matches against Both Grand Valley State (2/1) and Wayne State (2/2)… Earned his first dual-match win in singles play with a win over Dayton (2/24) when he also took his match at second doubles… Had singles and doubles wins against #3 Lynn (3/5)… Opened conference play with a pair of wins against Youngstown State (3/23)… Captured another conference doubles win against Valpo (4/7)… Took his doubles match against Northern Illinois (4/12) and his singles match that started a five-match win streak… Defeated non-conference opponents IUPUI (4/13) and IPFW (3/14) in singles play… Closed the regular season with a singles versus Green Bay (4/21)… Opened the Horizon League Championships with a win at fourth singles and second doubles against Youngstown State (4/26)… A member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

2011-12: NEarned a 14-13 singles record including a 5-1 mark in Horizon League play... Went 17-14 in doubles play and went 5-1 in Horizon League play... Earned his first singles victroy against Toledo (6-3, 6-1)  on September 30... Won back to back matches against Lipxcomb (3/3) and Western Kentucky (3/4)... Won eight of his past nine matches, all in straight sets... Opened the year with two doubles wins against Dayton (8-2) and IUPUI (8-3)... Downed Cleveland State (9-8 (7-4)) in a tie break at the  Michigan State Fall Invite (9/30-10/2)... Won two in a row against Wisconsin (8-4) and Illinois (9-7) at the ITA Regionals (10/13-15)... Defeated IPFW (8-6) and Wayne State (8-6)... Finished the year with two five-match winning streaks to end the season with Jay Joshi... Named to UDM Athletic Director's Honor Roll... Named to 2012 Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll.

2010-11: After starting Horizon League play with a three-set loss in singles, went on to secure three straight wins from Mar. 19-26 over Butler, UIC, and Valparaiso respectively... First nine wins of the dual season were in straight set victories... Closed out the year a 9-7 mark in singles taking six wins in the No. 5 spot, a perfect 2-0 mark at No. 4, and adding a single victory at No. 3... Also in singles, his nine dual-match wins were second best on the team while his four Horizon league victories topped the Titan squad... In doubles, teamed up with Alex Latosinsky for all but one of the team's dual matches as the duo finished second on the team in wins with seven on the year with two of those coming in confterence match-ups... The duo started the dual season in the No. 3 spot playing there twice and moved up as the next seven dual matches they played at No. 2 while the final eight contests of the year were at No. 1... Named to the 2010 Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Prior to Detroit: A transfer from East Carolina in Conference USA, where he posted a 5-3 record in singles and a 6-1 tally in doubles…He had a single victory at No. 3, a pair at No. 4 and added another at No. 6, while recording four of his doubles wins at No. 3… A member of the Costa Rican Davis Cup team since 2008…He was ranked the No. 1 junior player in Costa Rica in 2007 as he reached the semi-finals in the IFT Grade 3…He was also runner-up at the Panama ITF Championships and was part of the Doubles winning tandem at Copa Diana El Salvador Grade 4 ITF in 2009.
