On Sept. 13, 2008, Detroit Mercy unveiled its new Titan Tennis Courts at the James K. Campbell Complex, located immediately south of Calihan Hall.
Nearly a year after Titan Field was rennovated, Detroit Mercy welcomed new varsity tennis courts, featuring eight hard surfaces and a viewing pavilion, as well as an additional athletic field.
The 4,000-square-foot covered pavilion will be located at the north end of the facility, and an auxiliary natural grass playing field for soccer and lacrosse will be put in adjacent to the courts along Fairfield Street. The multi-purpose playing field will serve as a practice site for Detroit Mercy's soccer and lacrosse programs.
The venue will also serve as home for the University of Detroit Jesuit High School & Academy boy's tennis team, as U of D Jesuit was a major financial contributor to the overall project. The multi-purpose playing field will serve as a practice site for the Titan soccer and lacrosse programs.
A formal blessing of the new tennis complex was conducted by former Detroit Mercy President Fr. Gerard Stockhausen, S.J. In attendance were members of the women's and new men's tennis teams, their families, Titan staff and many of the donors who made construction of the new facility possible. The complex features eight varsity courts and a 4,000-square-foot viewing pavilion. TMP Architecture (Bloomfield Hills) served as the lead architect for the project, while The Monahan Company (Eastpointe) served as general contractor.
