INDIANAPOLIS (3/28/2023) -- All five University of Detroit Mercy men's golfer had career and season lows as the Titans finished up play at Butler's Don Benbow Spring Invitational on Tuesday.
The Titans finished tied for ninth with an 892 (296-296-300) at the par 70, 6,551-yard Highland Country Club in Indianapolis, Indiana. The two rounds under 300 were season lows and the best since last season's event at Butler, while the 892 team score was the best since posting the same mark at the 2021 Big Blue Intercollegiate.
Junior
Alek Mauro once again led the team as he tied his career best with a 217 (70-73-74) to share 36th place. He had 11 pars and two birdies in the final round and topped the squad and tied for ninth with 38 total pars. He also played the par 5's to a -1, 4.83 average.
Junior
Ryan Sangchompuphen tied for 54th with a career-best 222 (75-70-77), eight shots better than his previous career low. He had nine pars and a birdie in his final round and led the team on the par 3's with a +2, 3.17 average.
Freshman
Vincent Levesque finished in 70th with a season-low 228 (75-78-75), while freshman
Austin Brancaccio was 71st with a season-best 229 (76-79-74). Brancaccio paced the Titans with six birdies and tied for the team lead on the par 5's (-1, 4.83), and Levesque knocked in 32 pars.
Junior
Matthew Schultz registered a 231 (77-75-79) for 76th as he ended the day with 10 pars.
The red, white and blue will now get ready for the WIU Invite at TPC Deere Run next week, April 3-4.
