Buysse Ballpark, home of the Detroit Titan softball program, is currently undergoing a renovation as a press box addition to the on-campus facility is now underway thanks to the generosity of longtime Titan softball donor
Roger Buysse and his family.
The new softball press box will feature seating for members of the media and staff and will enhance the facility and give it more of a “Ballpark Atmosphere”.
“I want to thank Mr. Buysse for his continued support and dedication to Titan softball,” said head coach Sunny Jones. “He has meant so much to this program and all of the Titans, past and present, appreciate everything he has done for this team and for the University.”
This is the second upgrade to the facility in the past two years as Buysse Ballpark saw a new bullpen and hitting cage added in 2008. The field already features a natural grass playing surface and chair back stadium seating.
"
Roger, Tom, and the entire (Buysse) family have been extremely generous to the University," said Director of Athletics
Keri Gaither. "They have helped provide our softball student-athletes with one of the finest facilities in the Horizon League. Their generosity sets a standard for other alumni to follow."
The project is also the latest in a series of on-campus athletic facility enhancements that UDM has completed in the last three years, which includes the Titan Field in 2007, featuring an A-Turf field and a six-lane polyurethane track, the building of the Titan Tennis Complex and a 4,000-square-foot covered pavilion and a multi-purpose grass field and the Wayne Wheeler Titan Golf Practice Center in 2008 and the completely renovated and remodeled James E. Haas Men's Basketball Office Suite in 2010.
