DETROIT (10/11/12) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team will host the Titan Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the
Titan Tennis Courts at the James K. Campbell Complex.
Detroit will host Wayne State on Friday at 11:30 a.m. and then face Division III school Case Western Reserve on Saturday at Noon. UDM defeated Wayne State by a score of 6-1 in their last meeting on Feb.2, 2012 during the dual season . The last meeting between Detroit and Case was in 2009 when UDM came out on top by a score of 5-2.
The Titans return All-Conference second team honoree
Cesar Escobar Serrano. Serrano finished the season with a 20-11 record overall, a 16-7 mark in dual matches, and a 6-2 mark in the Horizon League. He is currently second all-time with 47 wins in Detroit history, eight behind current women's tennis head coach Pjotrs Necajevs.
Also returning for UDM are seniors
Pablo Nunez and
Mike Basha. Nunez finished with a record of 14-13 (5-1 HL) and Basha finished 14-17 (3-4 HL). Other returners will be seniors
Chris Cheung (8-7, 3-1 HL) and
Alex Latosinsky (10-23, 1-6 HL).
The Titans will finish the fall season with a trip to East Lansing where they will participate in the ITA Regional Tournament on Thursday.
