THE DETROIT-LOYOLA SERIES
The Titans will open their “second time around the HL” with their Jesuit rival as Loyola visits Calihan Hall. This will be the 66th meeting between the two schools - the most of any opponent in UDM history.
With its win in Chicago back in January, Detroit has now won nine of the last 10 games to increase its overall lead in the series to 45-20.
Detroit has simply dominated the series at home to the tune of a 23-6 advantage, but the Ramblers did end a five-game losing streak in the Motor City with an 88-77 win in overtime last year.
ABOUT THE RAMBLERS
Loyola, 9-11 overall and 4-5 in the Horizon League, has gone 3-2 since Detroit went into the newly renovated Gentile Arena and came away with a 76-66 victory on Jan. 7.
The Ramblers swept Youngstown State and Cleveland State on the road and downed Valparaiso at home, but have since dropped two heartbreaking games at home in a 60-57 contest against Butler and a 57-56 setback to UIC.
The Ramblers are second in the HL in scoring (67.1) and field goal percentage (.423) and lead the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.401). Four players are still in double figures in scoring for Loyola, with three in the top 12 in the Horizon League. Freshman Simone Law leads the team and is seventh in the league at 14.7 ppg. Junior Patrice King is 10th tallying 12.4 ppg., while junior Monica Albano is 12th averaging 12.3.
JESUIT SPOTLIGHT
The Titan-Rambler match-up is part of the nationwide Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project, using Jesuit basketball to raise awareness of Jesuit education.
The Basketball Spotlight project highlights more than 90 games this season between men's and women's teams from the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities across the United States. Each of the 28 is dedicated to strong academics and teaching women and men to serve others and live a faith that does justice.
Jesuit, Catholic colleges and universities in the United States have more than 200,000 students currently and more than 1.7 million living alumni. The Jesuit educational mission began in Europe approximately 500 years ago.
LONGEST RIVALRY IN SCHOOL HISTORY
This will be the 66th meeting between the two Jesuit schools, the longest in Titan history.
The programs first met on Jan. 8, 1983 in Chicago as Loyola won, 67-54.

Junior
Yar Shayok has posted some great games against Loyola. In six career games, she has four double-doubles and is averaging 11.1 points and 14.0 rebounds per game.

She is also shooting 48.2% from the field.
PUTTING THE “D” IN DETROIT
The Detroit Titans displayed some tough, aggressive defense in their 50-43 win at Cleveland State last Saturday.
UDM held the Vikings to just 25% shooting (13-of-52), including 20.8% in the first half (5-of-24) as well as just a 3-of-18 effort from three-point range.
The 13 field goals were the fewest by a Titan opponent since Marygrove had 11 in a 68-27 win last season.
The 43 points were also the fewest points allowed against a Division I school since a 52-43 triumph over Youngstown State last year.
The Titans held Cleveland State to 17 first-half points, the third time this season they have held an opponent under 20 and tying the lowest it has allowed all year with the 17 Milwaukee scored in the second half.
Detroit is currently fifth in the Horizon League in points allowed (61.8) and field goal percentage defense (38.3%).
LOW SCORING WIN
The Titans' 50-43 victory at Cleveland State last Saturday marked the first time in almost seven years that Detroit scored 50 or less in a win.
The last time that occurred was on Feb. 12, 2005, when UDM defeated Loyola at home, 49-34.
TITANS MATCH LAST YEAR'S HL WIN TOTAL
With its victory at Cleveland last week, the Titans posted their sixth conference win on the season.
The six wins match the six Detroit had a year ago.
Also, UDM's 6-3 start in league play is its best start since going 7-2 in 2010.
