Franklin Athletic Club and UDM Athletics Reach New Five Year Agreement

Franklin Athletic Club

DETROIT (2/5/2013) -- The Franklin Athletic Club, located in Southfield, Michigan, and the University of Detroit Mercy Athletics Department have announced a new-five year partnership agreement that will keep the indoor tennis facility as the official home of the UDM men's and women's varsity tennis programs.

In addition to being the home of the Titans, the facility will serve as an auxiliary facility for the UDM strength and conditioning and sports medicine areas allowing Titan athletics even more opportunities at the club.

“We are excited to announce that we have expanded and extended our partnership with one of metro Detroit's premier fitness centers in the Franklin Athletic Club,” said UDM Interim Director of Athletics Jason Horn.  "Our strength coaches and athletic trainers will now have broadened accessibility when it comes to training and rehabilitation services for all of our 19 teams. Construction will begin soon on the new team lounge and meeting room for both of our tennis programs. This project continues to strengthen our goal of having premier tennis programs in the Horizon League and challenge for championships."

The player lounge will be for members of the UDM tennis teams to work in a separate lounge area to have team meetings, conduct video analysis, study and have a private area in between practices and matches.

“Franklin Athletic Club is honored to become the new designated home of the University of Detroit Mercy Athletic Department. We are truly ecstatic to have this new partnership and hope to continue this relationship for years to come,” said Laura Seaman, the Sales and Marketing Director at the Franklin Athletic Club.

The auxiliary center will benefit the strength and conditioning and sports medicine departments at UDM and will allow for increased rehab facilities, such as a swimming pool, and a larger space to train and conduct workouts.

“In conjunction with strength and conditioning, the partnership with Franklin Athletic Club will enable sports medicine to enhance our care and treatment for student-athletes giving us the opportunity expand and use other variables that we need,” said Mike Miller, UDM Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. This partnership is a big win for all of our programs."

The Franklin Athletic Club gives access to the finest exercise facility in the area. With its recent, multi-million dollar renovation, there has been 10,000 square feet of space added that is devoted to free weights, circuit training and cardiovascular training equipment offering an extremely diversified range of training equipment.
