John Conway has announced that local standout and former All-State honoree
Shanyn McIntyre will be his new graduate assistant coach.
"Shanyn is going to bring a lot of energy to our program," said coach Conway. "She played multiple positions in college and I believe she will bring the positive attitude that it is not about where you are playing, but that you are playing. She will really push this team hard to succeed and I think this is a great fit for us."
"I want to thank coach (John) Conway for this opportunity and I am excited to be a part of this team," said McIntyre. "He is doing great things with this program and I can't wait to get to work."
She spent this past summer as a coach with the Michigan Batbusters travel organization, working primarily with the 16U squad.
McIntyre graduated from Miami (Ohio) this past May after earning four letters with the RedHawks. She appeared in 176 games with 143 starts in her four years as a utility player and was named Second Team All-MAC as a freshman
She hit .285 in her career with 11 home runs, 70 RBI and 75 runs scored. As a freshman, she posted a .328 batting average with two home runs, 19 RBI and a career-best 30 runs scored, and then ended her career with a big year hitting .316 with a career-high six homers and 24 RBI.
As a prep, she was a four-year letter winner for Romeo High School and was tabbed All-State as a shortstop in 2011 after earning All-State honors as a catcher in 2009. She was selected the 2011 Macomb County Player of the Year and ended her high school career with a .513 batting average.
She earned her undergraduate degree in kinesiology and health and is currently enrolled in the nursing program at UDM.
