DETROIT (5/16/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics has announced that
Nick Wilson will assume the position of Director of Strength and Conditioning.
"Nick is no stranger to the University, the student-athletes, and the coaches," said Associate Athletic Director
Mike Miller. "He has a true passion for Detroit Mercy and all of our student-athletes. We had a number of former players reach out to us about his character and his devotion to the Titans and from past experiences, I know that he will work great with all of the coaches and the sports medicine department in respect to performance enhancement and injury rehabilitation."
Wilson served as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Detroit Mercy from 2008-2012, working directly with 16 of the Titans' 19 varsity sports. During his time, he saw the rise of a number of different athletic programs, including women's golf winning its first-ever Horizon League Championship and men's lacrosse advancing to its first-ever MAAC championship game in only the program's third year of existence.
"I would like to thank
Robert C. Vowels, Jr.,
Mike Miller and all of those involved in this process and I truly appreciate the trust that they have in me," said Wilson. "I have a great deal of respect and love for all the student-athletes, coaches and staff here at Detroit Mercy and I can't wait for the new season to get here."
He spent the last four years working as a personal trainer at Fitness Revolution at Total Performance in Wixom, Michigan. Wilson trained individuals of all ages ranging from 10-year olds to adults. His main focus was on running group's fitness classes, doing personal training sessions and working on improving performance for athletes on a daily basis.
He also trained collegiate teams at Madonna University, Lawrence Tech and Ypsilanti High School.
A native of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Wilson came to the Titans from the Detroit Tigers, where he worked with the Tigers' minor league affiliates in Lakeland, Florida (High A), and Toledo, Ohio (AAA), as a strength and conditioning coach. Nick has also held the same position within the Minnesota Twins (AA) and Cincinnati Reds (High A) organizations.
While working in baseball, Wilson spent his off-seasons at Total Performance Training Center in Wixom under former Detroit Mercy Strength Coach Jim Kielbaso. At TPTC, Nick has trained hundreds of athletes of all ages and all different sports including soccer, baseball, football and lacrosse.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, where he completed his program by interning at Detroit Mercy in 2001. He received his CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2011 and is a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach from the USAW.
