DETROIT (8/29/2016) -- Former men's basketball standout
Chase Simon is another Titan currently playing professionally overseas. This summer, he stopped by Calihan Hall while visiting his hometown and DetroitTitans.com caught up with him.
Where Has Your Pro Career Taken You?
I have been with the Chicago Bulls Summer League, Greece, Lithuania, Poland, and Spain. I played last year in Spain in the ACB, which is the best league there. I am currently looking at offers in Spain, Germany, Italy and France now. I had a chance to play in the NBA Summer League this year, but turned it down to spend more time with my family and son.
Overcoming An Injury:
I got hurt while playing in Poland and I had to come back to the states and get surgery. I was very blessed to be able to chat with
Mike Miller, who was my trainer when I played here and he helped me out.
Could You Ever Imagine Being A Professional Basketball Player?
It is a great experience to be a professional basketball player and to make it to this level. Just this past year in Spain, we had about five or six guys sign with an NBA team so I am playing at a high level which is truly amazing. I still have goals to play in the NBA, but to be where I am now is amazing.
What Do You Know About New Head Coach Bacari Alexander?
He has true Titan pride and he lets people know that. He accomplished a lot as a player here and then as a coach. I think it is a great hire and a smart direction. I think he will be able to keep some of that talent from Detroit home, but he also has ties all around the Midwest and beyond so it is exciting to see where the program goes.
How Often Do You Follow The Titans?
I try and follow on the internet as much as possible. I look at the stats and standings as much as I could when I am overseas. I don't have a personal relationship really with any of the guys currently on the team like I had with
Juwan Howard Jr., the last few years, but the Titans are still my team.
What Does Calihan Hall Mean To You?
This is another home for me. I bring my son here and it's great to see familiar faces. There have been some changes, but I still see some great staff that was here during my time and helped me. It is also great to just come and shoot here with my son and show him how important this place is.
