Kara Wolfbauer and
Renee Trotman each recorded RBI doubles while senior
Olivia Warrington went the distance in her season debut going 7.0. innings with five strikeouts and one walk on five scattered hits as Detroit Mercy's rally came up short in a 3-2 setback in the season opener against Bowling Green at the DePaul Dome Tournament on Friday. The Titans also fell 2-0 to Western Illinois in the second game of the day.
Bowling Green Recap:
• Bowling Green (1-0) scored a run in the third inning and two in the top of the fifth inning for a 3-0 advantage.
• Warrington tossed a complete game in her season debut going 7.0. innings with five strikeouts, one walk on five scattered hits
• All three BGSU runs were unearned due to three Detroit Mercy errors
• Detroit Mercy (0-2) pulled within a run in the bottom of the fifth inning at 3-2 as Woflbauer delivered an RBI double to score freshman
Rusti Glenn followed by an RBI double by
Renee Trotman to score Wolfbauer.
Western Illinois Recap:
• WIU (1-0) scored two runs off solo home runs in the third and sixth inning
• WIU's Savannah Rodriguez tossed a perfect game against the Titans retiring all 21 batters consecutively in 7.0 innings with 12 strikeouts while recording 64 strikes in 88 total pitches.
• Sophomore
Chloe Spitzer went 6.0 innings recording two strikeouts with a walk and two earned runs.
Detroit Mercy continues DePaul Dome Tournament play against Creighton at 10:30 am ET followed by Evansville at 3:30 pm ET.
