Detroit Mercy Titans Hall of Fame

Detroit Mercy established its Sports Hall of Fame in 1977 in order to honor those student-athletes, coaches and administrators who have helped develop the successful tradition of Titan Athletics. Today, the Titan Hall of Fame has 169 all-time greats.

The 2002 induction dinner was truly one to remember. The inductees included two of the Titans’ former basketball All-Americans, Terry Tyler and John Long – or Thunder and Lightning, as they were affectionately known during their playing days – as well as the 1960 Titan football team as a unit. The star basketball pair’s old coach, none other than Dick Vitale, was the keynote speaker at his former players’ induction dinner. The present-day ESPN/ABC telecaster kept the audience captivated for more than an hour with his memories of coaching the Titans. Additionally, the beautiful new Hall of Fame display in the Calihan Hall lobby was unveiled that night for a crowd which would fill the arena’s main floor during the induction dinner.

In 2026, the Titans honored their latest Hall of Fame class in Chris Andrzejak (Baseball), Adam Bedell (Soccer), Jerry Fitzgerald (Fencing), Derrick Hayes (Basketball), Jamie Hebden (Lacrosse), Gina Milana (Softball), Tony Novitsky (Golf), Angie Otten (Cross Country/Track & Field), Radek Papiez (Soccer), Mark Risch (Track & Field), Nancy Scott (Fencing), and Ed Zaliagiris (Baseball).
