In 1947, he gained 614 yards on 61 carries for a 10.07 average, the highest average yards per carry in the nation for backs who gained over 500 yards. In 1947, he amassed 984 yards of total offense including kick returns and interception returns. A co-captain of the 1949 team, he was drafted by New York of the All-American Conference.
