DETROIT (5/10/23) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team is not done yet this spring as they will attend the Oakland University Last Chance meet Thursday, May 11 from the Elaine Leigh Track and Field Complex.
"A good track and field season never ends and the last chance is a time honored tradition in track and field" Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Guy Murray '89 said. "We have a few chasing the NCAA preliminary round, while a few are giving it one last go for a personal record. The weather forecast will be helpful for all efforts."
The meet will begin at 3:00 p.m. eastern with Hammer Throw, High Jump, Long Jump, and Pole Vault. The running events begin at 4:00 p.m. with the 4x100 Relay followed by the 400-Hurdles.
Among the Titans heading to Oakland are
Daniel Lanfear,
Dante Bassham,
Elijah Major,
Antonio Talley.
The Top-48 in the region compete at the East Region preliminaries which will be held in Jacksonville, Florida. Currently, Lanfear's 2.05 meters High Jump sits 59th in the nation. A year ago at the last chance meet, Lanfear qualified for regionals with his personal record height of 2.09 meters.
Bassham ranks 92nd in the 100-Meter with a 10.46 second time, though the NCAA recognizes his 10.42 second prelim time from the Horizon League Championships as his top time. The 10.46 second time was his time in the finals for the championship meet. For reference, the 48th ranked time in the NCAA is currently at 10.28 seconds.
