Veteran broadcaster and Detroit Metro native Dan Hasty (@ThatDanHasty) was tabbed the play-by-play voice of the Detroit Mercy men's basketball team in the summer of 2018 for radio broadcasts on 910 AM from 2018-2020 and WLQV 92.7 FM & 1500 AM FaithTalk Detroit from 2020-2024. Starting in 2024-25, he will transition to the Titan television broadcasts on ESPN+.
"I am honored and elated to be chosen as the next radio voice of Titans Basketball," said Hasty. "Joining the Titan family is an enormous honor and responsibility, and as someone married to a Titan, I have a special place for the values and integrity of Detroit Mercy. It's a dream come true to be the next radio voice of Titans Basketball."
A seasoned veteran from Sterling Heights, Michigan, and a graduate of Stevenson High School, Hasty is currently in his fourth season as play-by-play broadcaster for the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Detroit Tigers Class-A minor league baseball team.
He was selected the Midwest League Broadcaster of the Year in 2017 as well as honored in 2016 for his Excellence in Play-by-Play by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
Hasty was the voice of Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's basketball last year and also filled in for Dan Dickerson's play by play duties for two Tigers spring training games this past March.
Before his assignment with the Whitecaps, he spent four years at 97.1 FM The Ticket in Detroit as a talk show host, sports anchor, and producer. He also served as network studio host of the Detroit Lions and served in various roles on broadcasts of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings.
"Detroit is a special place for our family, and the city we've always connected with most," said Hasty. "Growing up a huge Detroit sports fan, almost all of my best memories have taken place here. Having been able to serve in a professional capacity in Detroit once before, I am elated to return."
Before coming back to Michigan, he was the network studio host for Wake Forest and Houston basketball and football. He was also the Director of Broadcasting with the Wilson Tobs, an amateur baseball team in the Coastal Plain League.
Hasty also broadcasted games and was a media relations assistant for the Great Lake Loons from 2007-09 and did play-by-play for the independent Traverse City Beach Bums in 2011.
"Mike Davis has a winning pedigree and works within an excellent blueprint of what makes teams successful. I can't wait to see what the future holds for this program," Hasty said.
He is a 2007 graduate of Central Michigan with a degree in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts.
Hasty is married to the former Angelina Gibson, a 2014 Detroit Mercy graduate in the five-year Physician's Assistant program.
